Inside issue 296 of evo

The Ferrari 296 GTB promises a lot, with a ludicrous 819bhp output, a trick new plug-in hybrid system and the very first V6 engine in a Ferrari road car. The question is, does it fall victim to the same issues as its flagship sibling, the SF90 Stradale?

An exciting first drive in a somewhat less complex performance car also features in issue 296, with Richard Meaden getting his hands on a prototype Emira. It’s the first all-new Lotus under Geely’s ownership and the last to be powered by an internal combustion engine. Though we’ll have to wait a little longer to sample the production article, this late prototype gives us a very good indicator as to what to expect.

Also in this issue, we get behind the wheel of Hyundai’s intriguing US-only Elantra N saloon, a new take on the i30 N hot hatch formula we’ve come to love here in the UK. It’s not short on power with the same 276bhp output sent to the front wheels, but are we missing out? We head to the US to put it through its paces.

The Bentley Continental GT and McLaren GT go head-to-head in issue 296, where we find out which sporting GT is most thrilling on UK roads. Both are capable performance machines in their own right, and tackle the grand touring formula from different angles, but which would we rather drive?

We also dive deep into the details of the charming Morgan Super 3, feature WRX and Dakar photographer Charly Lopez in Life through a lens, put a 550bhp Volkswagen Golf R up against BBR’s 250bhp Mazda MX-5, check in with our latest Fast Fleet updates and much more in issue 296, on sale now!
